Famous spots/sights

Li River

A trip on Li River is an essential part of any trip to the Guilin/Yansghuo area. Every turn reveals more spectacular scenery and interest. Between the gorgeous karst peaks you will see water buffalo, rice paddies, fishermen and lots more.

Yulong River

The Yulong river is the biggest tributary of the Li River in the Yangshuo area, and has it’s own character. Most tourists visit the Yulong river to take a relaxing bamboo raft trip.

Moon Hill

Cycle out to this attractive mountain – either through the countryside or along 8 Km of road. You can walk up to and through the 'moon' shaped hole for great views all around.

Dragon Bridge

We can arrange a trip to this very picturesque bridge on the Yulong River. It can easily be incorporated into other itineraries and makes an interesting stop along bike rides or a target for a hike.

Caves

Yangshuo abounds in caves: Dragon Gate Water Cave, Buddha Water Cave and Silver Cave to name just a few. InsYangshuo abounds in caves: Dragon Gate Water Cave, Buddha Water Cave and Silver Cave to name just a few. Inside the fabulous caves you will find stalactites, stalagmites, stone columns, stone curtains and stone pillars. These fantastic shapes are sometimes enhanced by coloured lights and fancy names. If you prefer the natural look be sure to ask.

We only recommend Buddha Water Cave (for the adventurous) and Silver Cave (for all others). You can see our comments about the other at the bottom of this page.

For the evening:

Liu Sanjie Light Show

A delightful show, directed by Zhang Yi Mou (famous for movies such as 'Hero' and 'The House Of Flying Daggers'). The show is set on the Li River and the lighting of the mountains in the background is truly amazing. Different minorities from this region sing and dance in celebration of their own culture.

Show time: 8 PM

Duration: 1 hour

Location: The show has its own site by the river bank

Cost: 188RMB/person

How to get there: 10 minutes by car and a short walk to your seat. Please allow 40 minutes so as not to miss the start of the show.

Cormorant fishing

Watch this traditional technique from a boat. Highly trained birds catch fish and deliver to their master, for a share. You can see this every evening after dark.

Chinese Kung Fu Show

A program of twenty technique demonstrations performed by local students under the direction of Master Feng Fuhao.

Chenyang

We can arrange trips to the Dong village of Chenyang with its wonderful Wind and Rain Bridge and Drum Tower.

Since this is a remote area we do not get many requests. Please ask if you do want more information. We have a good friend in Chenyang who can help us prepare detailed answers.

We do not recommend the following sites unless you have a specific interest:

Butterfly Cave: A kitsch site which may only be worthwhile if you have younger children

Magical Cave: Far from the biggest or best of the local caves. Has really only opened to take advantage of the traffic heading towards the bamboo rafting.

Shangri-la: This is very definitely a site for big domestic groups only. Some nice scenery but little else is real.

Assembling Dragon Cave: A novel name, but a dull site.

Big Banyan Tree: Although the tree is an attractive feature this site has little else to offer and most western visitors will find the conditions of the animals distressing.
